Nancy Retes
President
My name is Nancy Retes. I work as an EOPS counselor and I teach Chicano Studies one night a week. I began my work at Butte College as a part time counselor in the Transfer Center. After about two years, I transferred to the EOPS office and worked as a part time counselor there, as well as part time at Chico State. I eventually got a full time counseling position with the EOPS office and have been here going on 15 years. When I’m not counseling or teaching, I’m traveling somewhere around the world. As your BCEA president I hope to represent you to the best of my ability.

Mario Vela
Vice President
Mario Vela is a full-time faculty member that works as a Certified Athletic Trainer and the Director of Sports Medicine within the Health, Physical Education, & Athletics Department.  Mario currently resides in Chico with his wife, Shanna, and sons, Brendon and Dustin.

Jan McKissick
Chief Negotiator
Jan is the mother of twins, Caitlin and Lila (although you wouldn't know it to look at them). They keep their Mother very busy, although Jan still finds time to remain active with CCA as our Secretary. She also enjoys camping and traveling with her family and is a regular yoga practitioner. She has held local union leadership positions which include: President, Vice President, Grievance and Negotiating Team Member, and statewide, has been CCA District A Director.

Ken Speed
Chief Grievance Office
Ken is the Coordinator of Job Placement and Cooperative Education, and has been employed by the college since 1985. In '03-'04 he was a Grievance Representative for BCEA, and will assume the role of Grievance Chair for '04-'05. When not defending the BCEA contract, Ken likes to spend his time on the golf course, and boating and fishing on Lake Oroville.
